Organisations involved with the New Apprenticeship/Traineeship program who you may have contact with are: 

Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) - responsible for administering Commonwealth Government Financial Incentives for the employer to assist with training and wages, the AAC prepares the training contract between the trainee and the employer. An AAC representative will visit during the contract period to make sure your program is on track.

State Training Authority –  the Department of Education and Training (DET), which holds a contract with METS (the Registered Training Organisation - RTO) and funds METS to deliver the training to New Apprentices and Trainees, DET confirms the training contract, makes sure the RTO complies with the Australian Quality Training Framework Standards and User Choice Service Standards expected of RTO’s, ensures that the contract completes on time or is amended accordingly and that the correct qualification is issued when achieved. DET may also seek feedback from the trainee and the employer

The Employer - establishes with the trainee and the AAC, the training contract, works with the RTO to provide on the job training and support to achieve the qualification, assesses some of the trainee's skills and knowledge and provides advice to the RTO training representative on the progress of the trainee. The employer pays the training wage and provides work conditions under an appropriate award or workplace agreement.

Registered Training Organisation (RTO) - METS, selected by the employer and the trainee to oversee the training program and issue the qualification on evidence of appropriate training, assessment and successful completion.

Training Representative – your local representative who will be working for the RTO to help develop and monitor the training plan, schedule training and assessment, provide additional training if required, set goals, and assess your skills.

METS and the training representative deliver the program in accordance with Australian Quality Training Framework standards and the requirements of the User Choice Service Standards endorsed by DET.

General Information

  • A traineeship is a nationally recognised training program that enables you to gain a fully accredited qualification whilst you work
  • A traineeship is a great opportunity for new or existing workers to gain fundamental learning in both practical and theory elements of their chosen course. (Conditions apply)
  • METS is registered to deliver traineeships in Community Services including Children's Services & Disability Services, and in partnership with Jobs Australia Ltd, METS also deliver traineeships in Certificate III Business Administration
  • METS offer both employment based (Sydney metro only) and distance traineeships  - there are no external classes to attend
  • METS is also able to deliver Certificate IV in Children's Services (Outside School Hours Care)
  • METS training representatives are qualified professionals with centre-based experience
  • Employers and METS training representatives work together to ensure support is given to the trainee throughout the term of the course
  • Trainees are issued with current resources that provide them with all the information required to complete the assessments
  • No course fees other than the government stipulated enrolment fee* (currently $414) *exemptions and concessions may apply, please discuss with METS staff. The enrolment fee is the responsibility of the student
  • You will have the support of a personal qualified trainer/assessor throughout the term of the traineeship who will attend your workplace to carry out assessments. You will receive up to 8 visits/contacts for a 12 month traineeship and 12 visits for a two year traineeship
  • On successful completion of your traineeship, you will have gained valuable workplace experience as well as a nationally recognised qualification

Children's Services Traineeships

  • You must have the co-operation of a licensed childcare centre that is willing to employ you as a trainee (government incentives may apply) and have the capacity to provide the practical experiences required to complete your course. It is also required for Certificate III Children's Services and The Diploma of Children's Services (Early childhood education and care)  traineeships that the centre have a qualified person holding a Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood to act as your supervisor during the course of your study
  • On successful completion of your traineeship in Certificate III Children's Services or Certificate IV in Children's Services (Outside school hours care), you will also have the opportunity to gain further qualifications - Diploma of Children's Services (Early childhood education and care)  through METS if you choose
  • NOTE - It is required that anyone working in the childcare profession undergo a working with children check.

How to Enrol

  • Your employer should contact METS to arrange for a consultant to attend your workplace to begin the enrolment process
  • At this time you will be required to pay the government stipulated enrolment fee (currently $414*). The enrolment fee is the responsibility of the student. You can pay by cash, cheque, money order or credit card. *Exemptions and concessions may apply - contact METS for details. Our consultant will help you to complete the enrolment form, collect the enrolment fee, and answer any questions you or your employer may have about the traineeship
  • Our consultant can also organise for the Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) to come to your workplace with the training contract if your employer has not already done so
  • Once the Department of Education & Training has approved your training contract, you will meet your METS training representative who will issue all the resources and assessments for the course and begin your training
